The INM (Instituto Nacional de la Música) provides formation to the country’s musicians and this month celebrates 40 years of doing so and brings lots of activities in Costa Rica.

This celebration plans to bring a variety of free activities from June 16th to June 23rd to commemorate the music revolution in Costa Rica.

“This institute has given its participation in the academic formation of all musicians, almost the totality, of the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional, national bands and popular groups and we will have the celebration starting with what we call open doors, which is a day we open our house so anybody can visit us and know exactly what we do here” said Jorge Duarte, academic director of INM.

The idea of creating the Juvenile program of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional was impulse by Guido Sáenz, Viceminister of culture at the Jose Figueres Ferrer administration and later became Instituto Nacional de la Musica in 1977.

“40 years has passed like a dream, at least for me, since the day this project started. It had a dramatic start because the country didn’t understand why it was done, what was done and how it was done to dismiss the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional members since they had 30 years existing. It was very hard, and it was so much drama to a lot of people that were involved in this transformation” explained Guido Sáenz.

There will be special guests like Geral Brown, first director of the institution and will play along with the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional at the closing concert. As well there will be national groups like Editus, Son de Tikizia, Eric Sanchez and band, the Big Band de Costa Rica among others.

Enjoy some of the Costa Rica culture by participating on these activities. This is definitely a nice travel deal to Costa Rica.
